Ultra Music Festival Is Relocation To A New Florida City and Venue in 2020!

resistance-miami-2019

Following a challenging year with an unprecedented and hasty relocationUltra Music Festival has announced that it will not return to the Virginia Key location and will be seeking a new, permanent home in South Florida.

In an official statement released today, Ultra acknowledged the largely negative feedback to the Virginia Key location, which was stretched across a venue that at some points, took attendees 45 minutes or more to walk across. Additionally, due to its isolated location, ride shares were banned and provided bus transportation leaving the island and festival had extended delays that caused hundreds of attendees to walk across a three mile bridge.

“After listening to feedback from many of you, it is clear that the festival experience in Virginia Key was simply not good enough,” the statement reads. “This is Ultra Music Festival, after all, and our attendees expect us to deliver on our commitment to excellence. Being committed to excellence not only means constantly striving to become better, it also means being willing to change things when they are not working.”

Ultra has voluntarily terminated their license with the City of Miami, where the festival has been based for two decades. The statement was released strategically, the day before the Virginia Key commission was meant to vote on potentially revoking a year-to-year licensing agreement with the festival. The statement continues to allude to a new “unique and impressive” location in South Florida that will become the new, permanent home of Ultra for “many years to come”. According to Miami Herald sources, it is rumored that the Homestead-Miami Speedway, a race track located about 35 miles South of Miami, could be the new home for the festival.

The statement concludes with a promise to reveal details about the location and dates soon.

Though Ultra plans to relocate within South Florida, it remains to be seen how the annual Miami Music Week and Winter Music Conference, both of which have traditionally been planned throughout the week just prior to the festival, will be affected.

Sony reveals first Playstation 5 details

playstation5_ps5_release_date_launch_campaign.jpg

Sony has revealed details of its highly anticipated PlayStation 5 in a new interview with Wired.

Among the new features promised is support for 8k graphics, 3D audio, lightning fast SSDs, and cross-generational compatibility with all released PlayStation 4 games, making for a more immersive gaming experience with rapid gameplay and load times.

The new console will feature entirely new hardware from its predecessors the PS4 and PS4 Pro, including an eight-core CPU based on a new AMD chip that will make it the first gaming console to feature ray-tracing graphics.

No details about games, media features or a release date have been revealed, and unfortunately Sony isn’t participating in E3 this year so we’re unlikely to hear anything then. But developers have been granted access to kits to develop games for the console, indicating a launch next year could well be on the cards.

WOMAD FESTIVAL: “IT IS HARDER TO BOOK ARTISTS BECAUSE OF BREXIT”

womad.jpg

The organisers of WOMAD (World of Music, Arts, and Dance) Festival have said Brexit is making it harder to book artists.

Potential artists fear they won’t be able to enter the United Kingdom due to the uncertainty surrounding the UK’s departure from the European Union.

Chris Smith, who runs the festival, said: “It is harder to book artists because of Brexit. We are struggling to overcome it and let artists know they are welcome here and people still want to experience their great music.

“Lots of artists are finding they can get to Europe but fear taking the next step to the UK, particularly if there is there is no passport union.”

Although the visa application process for the festival won’t have opened yet, Smith worries it could be difficult.

WOMAD, held in Wiltshire, had problems with visas last year, with artists unable to perform because of delays.

WOMAD was founded by former Genesis member Peter Gabriel in 1982.

This year’s edition takes place from July 25 to 28. More information can be found here.

Dancing can reverse the signs of aging in the brain

interviewgrandmatechnoisa72year-olddancemusicbadass.jpg

As we grow older we suffer a decline in mental and physical fitness, which can be made worse by conditions like Alzheimer’s disease. A new study, published in the open-access journal Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, shows that older people who routinely partake in physical exercise can reverse the signs of aging in the brain, and dancing has the most profound effect.

“Exercise has the beneficial effect of slowing down or even counteracting age-related decline in mental and physical capacity,” says Dr Kathrin Rehfeld, lead author of the study, based at the German center for Neurodegenerative Diseases, Magdeburg, Germany. “In this study, we show that two different types of physical exercise (dancing and endurance training) both increase the area of the brain that declines with age. In comparison, it was only dancing that lead to noticeable behavioral changes in terms of improved balance.”

$19 MILLION OF COCAINE HAS BEEN DISCOVERED IN A PINEAPPLE SHIPMENT

drug-bust-pineapples-cocaine.jpg

A shipment of cocaine valued at more than $19 million has been seized by US Customs and Border Protection at Georgia’s Savannah seaport.

The 450 packages of weighing more than 500 kilograms arrived hidden among pineapples on a ship from Colombia in November, and a subsequent field test by the Office of Field Operations confirmed they contained cocaine.

CBP announced the bust on Friday. Savannah’s CBP Area Port Director Lisa Beth Brown said: “This was an outstanding interception of narcotics by our CBP officers.

“This seizure is a positive enforcement action against drug smuggling organizations and highlights the important work our officers do each day to stop illegal activity at our borders and ports of entry.”

Authorities are now investigating the drug seizure.

DJ EZ HAS ANNOUNCED A HOUSE AND TECHNO ALIAS

ez.jpg

DJ EZ has announced his new alias, Elvin Zedo, that will focus on house and techno sets.

Elvin Zedo originally came about in 2004 when DJ EZ was gaining profile as a prominent garage DJ. He’s said it helped him play different styles of music away from garage.

“House and techno has always had a special place in my heart and Elvin Zedo allowed me to continue to play these sounds without interfering with my role in the UK garage scene. Now my aim is to DJ under both names; DJ EZ and Elvin Zedo.”

The move seems natural for the DJ who begun his career as DJ Easy O playing house in the ’80s, something DJ EZ said he knew he “would always return to”.

The DJ is set to perform live sets under the name Elvin Zedo alongside his current work as DJ EZ.
